⬇️Notice of Forthcoming Election (download)

We have three Executive Committee and four Advisory Committee Members posts up for election or re-election at the Association’s forthcoming conference in Bedlewo, Poland next year. These posts are:

• The Editor
• The Webmaster
• Treasurer cum Member Secretary
• Advisory Committee Members

All existing holders of these posts may, if they wish, stand for re-election. We will begin fielding nominations immediately, with the intention of voting for candidates through email and ratifying the final decisions at the next General Meeting at Bedlewo, Poland.
The Association’s Executive Committee is responsible for overseeing the effective running of the Association on a day-to-day basis, overseeing the successful organisation of our conferences, encouraging and overseeing the standard of research and other works published under the Association’s auspices, as well as promoting the Association and its work internationally and ensuring members are kept up-to-date on relevant news and events. The general responsibilities of these posts are detailed below:

The Editor
The Editor, whose responsibilities include: ensuring the timely publication of Ladakh Studies; overseeing the maintenance of the Association website.

The Webmaster
The responsibilities of the Webmaster are to maintain the website and update it on a regular basis. This is done in consultation with other members of the Executive Committee.

The Treasurer cum Membership Secretary
The treasurer cum Membership Secretary, whose responsibilities include: effective maintenance of the rolls of membership; maintenance of Association subscription fees; keeping of Association accounts and expenses; presentation of Association accounts to the General Meeting.

The Advisory Committee Members
The Advisory Committee members shall consist of up to twelve members who are recognised scholars and persons of good standing, and who have been paid-up members of the association for at least two years. The Committee’s role is to represent a broad range of academic disciplines and regions; to promote the aims of the IALS within their professional circles; and to provide general guidance to the Executive Committee in accordance with the Association’s aims and objectives.

In recent years Ladakh Studies have seen an expanding membership, an extension of the frontiers of our research, and a wider audience reach. This expansion has been assisted by advances in communications, opportunities for travel, and a continuously changing geopolitical landscape, all of which provide us with opportunities to access new networks and build new partnerships with neighbouring regions. Membership of the Executive Committee provides opportunities to respond and take advantage of these changes, to raise the international profile of Ladakh Studies and the work that we do, and to influence the future direction of the Association.

If you are interested in being considered for one of the forthcoming posts on our Executive Committee and Advisory Committee members, or if you know of somebody who you wish to nominate who you think can take Ladakh Studies forward, please email us at elections2017@ladakhstudies.org.

The deadline to file nominations or propose names (with the consent of the candidate) is Friday, 31st March 2017.

Following nomination, the election committee will immediately publicise the names of the candidates and voting can begin. For those members who wish to cast their votes through email, the voting shall remained open with effect from 01. 04. 2017 to 29. 04. 2017.
